What's new in Social Media | Week Three

The day before Instagram was set to update their algorithms, if you checked an Instagram newsfeed, you’d swear the sky was falling. Every other post was a “turn on notifications” post.  If you felt so inclined to turn on notifications then the next day you may have regretted this decision as you received a push notification for every new photo that account posted.Account holders were stressing that with the new format viewers wouldn’t see their posts as rather than the traditio...

Stand up and be heard or be left behind.

What's strange, is the human predisposition to focus on the negative. Particularly as kiwis, growing up staunch and broad shouldered, there was no room for fluffiness, or patting ourselves on the back....

What's new in Social Media | Week Two

With the latest update from Facebook Messenger, they have graced us with the world’s greatest distraction – Basketball via messenger. A very simple game, but a surprisingly challenging one. You don’t actually need any real physical skill as you flick the virtual ball into the hoop, but if you have the slightest of competitive streaks this will be awoken. To play this game of 'Basketball' or what we'd call 'shooting hoops' simply send the Basketball emoji to a friend, or group of ...

Perspective 2025 - Disruptive Technology

Last Friday I was absolutely privileged, and some what nervous, to be one of ten amazing women in Agribusiness who gave their 'Perspective 2025' for the Primary sector. The event was held as part of NZ Agri Investment week and was streamed live on Stuff.co.nz. If you missed the live stream you can view it here http://bit.ly/1S2ntZ9. My chosen topic was Disruptive Technology and how this will play an integral roll in the way we farm in the future. You can read my speech below....

Planning for Success

One of the hardest things to achieve in life is the ability to be able to create your own path. For many reasons we're stopped from achieving exactly what it is we want but recently I’ve been given some excellent, yet simple advice about creating my own path. Let me share this with you. Every year we go about setting our ‘New Year resolutions’ and in my experience we hardly see them through. February comes and we think ‘we must set to and get that done,’ or ‘one week off the routine ...

University, uncertainties and unique opportunities

As cliche as it may sound, I didn’t see myself where I currently am five years ago and I genuinely mean it. I was a 17 year old off to Massey University to complete her Agriscience degree and become the next Ag student in a graduate programme for the standard fertiliser or seed company. Three years, you’re in and out with a career – bam! Sounds simple doesn’t it?...

Red Wine and a Dinner Party

I promise this isn’t a blog about the effects of red wine after a dinner party. Ok maybe it is, but not in the way you’re thinking. In May 2015 I saw myself at a cross roads – ‘What did my future hold?’ I had a secure job, I was working with great people but felt I was missing a little something. It turns out that little something, was a big challenge. While having drinks with the Kellogg’s Rural Leadership cohort in Wellington, I came across participants of the Agri-Wome...
